Send email and SMS broadcasts

Send one email or text to your whole list or a segment from Email & Text Broadcasts. Needs a verified email domain.

A broadcast is one message to many contacts at once, by email or SMS. Create it in Email & Text Broadcasts, pick who gets it, send a test, then send or schedule.

Before you start

  • Email needs a verified sending domain. Set it up in Domain & Email. See Domain & Email.
  • Email law requires a physical address in the footer. Buildy asks for it the first time. Click Add Address.
  • SMS needs a Business Phone Number with texting turned on. See Business Phone Number.
  • Sending uses Operating credits, about 4.5 per email.

Steps

  1. Open Email & Text Broadcasts from Dashboard, or Tools on a phone.
  2. Click New Broadcast. Choose Email or SMS.
  3. Write the name, subject line and body, or ask Buildy in chat: "Write a broadcast announcing our summer sale." Click Score spam words to check the subject and body.
  4. Pick the audience. For email, use Quick filters (stages & tags) to choose stages (Subscriber, Lead, Customer, Churned) and tags, or pick a saved segment. The page shows "Up to N recipients". For SMS, pick All opted-in contacts or one tag.
  5. Click Save Draft. For email, click Send test and read it on your phone.
  6. Click Send Broadcast Now or Schedule Broadcast.

The broadcast shows Sending, then Sent with how many were delivered. Unsubscribed contacts are always left out.

Segments

A segment is a saved audience filter you can reuse, like "customers tagged VIP who joined in the last 30 days". Ask Buildy in chat to create one: "Create a segment of leads from the website in the last 14 days." Segments appear under Segments on the Broadcasts page. You can delete them there.

Common problems

"Up to 0 recipients"

No contact matches the stages and tags you picked, or they are all unsubscribed. Remove a filter, or check the tags on your contacts in Contacts.

"A verified custom email domain is required to send this broadcast."

Finish email setup in Domain & Email first.

"No SMS-eligible contacts in the audience"

SMS only goes to contacts who agreed to receive texts and have a mobile number in a country your number can text. A US number texts the US and Canada. A UK number texts the UK. An Australian number texts Australia.

By default, texts send only in these local hours: 8am to 8pm in the US and Canada, 9am to 8pm in the UK, and noon to 8pm Sydney time in Australia.

People say my email went to spam

Run Score spam words and remove the flagged words. Send from a domain that has been sending for a while, and keep a real address and an unsubscribe link in the footer. Buildy adds both.
