# Make pages require login

Decide who can see your app in **Dashboard > Site & App Settings** under **App Access**. You can keep everything public, require login everywhere, or choose page by page.

## Steps

1. Open **Dashboard > Site & App Settings** from **Dashboard**, or **Tools** on a phone.
2. Find **App Access**: "Choose who needs to sign in to use your app".
3. Pick one:
   - **Pages public by default**. Buildy still adds login to a page when a feature needs a signed-in user.
   - **Require login on every page**. Visitors must sign in before they see anything.
   - **Manually choose pages to require login**. A list opens. Move pages from **Available Routes** to **Protected Routes**.
4. Click **Save Changes** in the bar at the bottom.
5. Click **Publish & Share** so the live site follows the new rule.

App Access needs a paid plan and an app with user accounts. If your app has no login yet, see [Add user accounts and login](/docs/build/add-user-accounts-and-login).

## Common uses

- A members area: keep the home page public, protect the Members and Downloads pages.
- An internal tool: require login on every page.
- A client portal: protect the Projects pages and give each client their own login.

## Common problems

### Visitors see a login page on my home page

App Access is set to **Require login on every page**. Switch to **Manually choose pages** and protect only the pages that need it.

### I protected a page but it is still public

Click **Save Changes**, then **Publish & Share**. Open the live site in a private browser window to check.
