# Export your code

You own your code. Download it any time from **Dashboard > Advanced > Developer** under **Code Export**.

## Steps

1. Open **Dashboard > Advanced > Developer**. On a phone, use **Tools > Advanced > Developer**. You do not need to turn on Developer Mode.
2. Find **Code Export** and click **Export code**.
3. Wait while Buildy prepares the file. A zip named after your project downloads.

The zip holds the code of your site. It does not include your saved keys, your app's data or your contacts. To download your contacts, open **Contacts**, tick the contacts, and click **Export**.

## What you can do with it

- Keep a backup.
- Hand it to a developer.
- Host it somewhere else. Features that use Buildy services, like email sending, AI features and your app's data, do not work there until they are set up again.

## Common problems

### "Project is too large to export right now"

The project has too many or too large files. Ask Buildy in chat to remove unused images and files, then try again. If it still fails, open **Chat with support**.

### "Project repository is not ready to export yet"

Buildy is still setting up a new project. Wait a few minutes and try again.
